Fixed axle or bearing axle?

A diabolo on its own does not spin. You need three things: the diabolo, a pair of sticks and the string between them. We will pick them one at a time, then add the whole set in one go.

The axle is the small part in the middle of the diabolo that the string runs on. It is the one choice that changes everything after it, so we ask it first.
